Isabella I of Spain

Isabella I was the Queen of Castile (Kas-teel). She married Ferdinand, the King of Aragon, and their two kingdoms joined together. They became the country we now call Spain.

One day, a man named Christopher Columbus came to Queen Isabella with an exciting idea. He wanted to find a new, faster way to sail to Asia by going around the world in the opposite direction! He needed ships, sailors, and money for the trip. Everyone else he had asked had turned him down because they thought it would be too far. So just imagine how he must have felt when Isabella said yes, she would help him!

Because she believed in Columbus’ idea he set sail on his trip. He didn’t find Asia, but some islands that were part of the Americas. People called it ‘The New World.’

After this, lots of Spanish people set sail across the ocean to explore and live in this New World. Isabella and Ferdinand’s kingdoms became rich with gold and silver. This was the beginning of the Golden Age where Spain was full of riches, music, stories, and art.

Welcome to Stories of Queens!

I’m a mother of four children in Southern Tasmania, and I have a love for history, particularly royal history.

I have been inspired to create beautiful books about queens, and kings, in stories that can be read easily to young children.

With artwork from young artists in Tasmania, maps and timelines, these books are sure to delight both children and adults. The stories are just as suitable for bedtime stories as they are for educational or leisurely reading.

I hope these books will leave you and your children excited to discover more about the lives of kings and queens, the events of history that surrounded them, and how they shaped the world around them.

But most of all, I hope they will be enjoyed and become your favourite books to reach for!
